Sinclair’s Spectacular Strike Cancelled Out By Brewster In Deepdale Draw

Play-off hopefuls Preston and Swansea played out a 1-1 draw at Deepdale yesterday afternoon.

Scott Sinclair scored his first North End goal against his former side, but on-loan Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster cancelled out Sinclair’s opener to ensure the Swans left with a point.

The draw leaves both sides just outside the play-off spots, with Preston sitting in seventh while Swansea are sat in eight.

It was an unchanged Preston line-up from the fixture against Barnsley, while Steve Cooper made two changes from the defeat at Stoke with Kyle Naughton and Joe Rodon replacing Benjamin Cabango and Connor Roberts.

Following a scrappy start to the game, George Byers forced Declan Rudd into the first save of the afternoon, before Swansea threatened again, this time Andre Ayew heading Matt Grimes corner just wide.

The deadlock was broken against the run of play through a moment of brilliance from Sinclair.

The winger, who joined from Celtic last month, collected the ball from Darnell Fishers throw-in, before driving past three Swansea defenders and curling an effort into the far corner beyond Freddy Woodman.

However, the opener was cancelled out almost immediately when Connor Gallagher slipped in Ayew, whose goal-bound effort was helped over the line by Brewster from close range.

The away side finished the half the better side, with Gallagher’s long-ranged effort going wide and then when Bersant Celina’s effort was well saved by Rudd.

Celina was presented with an excellent opportunity to put the Welsh side ahead on the 52nd minute. He was played in by Ayew, but the on-loan Manchester City man couldn’t sort his feet out quick enough and Patrick Bauer got back to make a timely challenge.

It was certainly a feisty fixture at Deepdale and its fair to say that Brewster was a lucky man to still be on the park after his mistimed tackle on Ben Pearson.

North End were the side who pushed for a winner towards the end, with Swansea looking happy with a point.

They nearly snatched a winner right at the death when Alan Browne’s cross from the right was met by a towering header into the ground from Bauer, and Woodman done tremendously well to tip it over the bar.
